Turning a Single-Family Home into an Income-Generating Asset with SB 9 + ADUs

There’s something about standing at the edge of the ocean that makes everything slow down.
The constant rush of waves, the scent of salt in the air, the rhythm of water pulling and releasing, it does something profound to the nervous system. For me, it became my first safe place. Long before I could name it, the ocean was my reset button, my teacher, my reminder to breathe.

Today, science has caught up with what many of us have always known intuitively: water heals.

It’s more than a feeling… it’s called Blue Mind, a term coined by marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols to describe the mildly meditative state our brains enter when we’re near, in, on, or under water. Blue Mind is the opposite of what he calls Red Mind the anxious, overstimulated state so many of us live in as women balancing business, leadership, and life.

And if you’ve ever found yourself exhausted even after success… this one’s for you.

The Science Behind Blue Mind

When we’re by the ocean, our brains respond in measurable ways.
Research shows that the color blue and the sound of waves reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) by up to 20%. The rhythmic pattern of waves activates our parasympathetic nervous system, the part of us responsible for calm and restoration.

Even more interesting: water increases alpha brain waves, the same state we reach in meditation or creative flow. That’s why so many people say they get their best ideas near water, it’s literally rewiring your brain for clarity.

For women in business, who are constantly creating, managing, and holding space for others, this shift isn’t a luxury, it’s medicine.

It’s the reset your nervous system has been asking for.

Why Burnout Hits Women in Business Differently

Let’s be honest: many of us wear “busy” like a badge of honor.

We juggle clients, deals, families and our own expectations. But this constant Red Mind, the grind, the alerts, the never-ending inbox creates chronic stress that erodes creativity, empathy and even our ability to make clear decisions.

Women leaders, especially those building their own path, experience emotional burnout not just from workload but from emotional labor: caring deeply, problem-solving constantly and holding the weight of others’ expectations.

The ocean teaches us to release control.

It’s impossible to fight the tide. You have to flow with it. That’s the energy shift that allows restoration and innovation to return.

Join Us: Ocean Healing Session for Women in Business

On November 15th in Hermosa Beach, I’ll be hosting a one-hour ocean healing experience for women in business.

We’ll breathe, connect and learn how to integrate Blue Mind practices into leadership and entrepreneurship.

Afterward, we’ll tour one of our Hermosa Beach Airbnbs – proof that intention, real estate and flow can coexist beautifully and share fruit, coffee and tea with like-minded women who are ready to lead from calm, not chaos.
